Task 2.3 - Describe continuity and solve relevant contextual problems

A)

i) State the so-called continuity equation' defining all terms used.

ii) Provide a practical fluid flow example of your own choice, and show how the continuity

equation can be used to explain the features of the fluid flow.

iii) Explain how the continuity equation reduces to its simplest form for incompressible flow.

B) An incompressible fluid flows through a pipe of circular cross-section with a diameter of

20mm and with a velocity of 10m/s. If the pipe then changes in diameter to 25mm, calculate

the velocity at this point
