The objective of this laboratory study is to understand the material properties of steel, including the stress-strain relationship, yield strength, tensile strength, elongation and reduction of cross-sectional area, modulus of elasticity, and rupture strength of steel according to ASTM E8 Tension Testing of Metallic Materials. This lab will provide an overview of tension testing of metals and determining mechanical properties from test data. Laboratory sessions will include an overview of how to build all sections of an engineering laboratory report that will be helpful in Lab 2.
