Question

5. [5 pts] Modify the Simulink model for D1 subject to incorporate the use of an insulin pump in your simulations. Assume the same schedule and sizes of meals as in

Q.4. Show clearly how you are changing the model and what Simulink block you are using to simulate the insulin pump. Suppose this first insulin pump is capable of delivering a constant infusion of insulin over 24 hours. Determine the insulin infusion rate (in mU h-1) required to reduce blood glucose concentration in D1 to approximately the same level as that in N by the end of 24 hours (refer to your simulations results in Q.4. The Subject N does not use any insulin pump!). Plot the trajectories of the meals and blood glucose and insulin of D1 (i.e., 3 subplots as in Q.4 but only has D1 simulated results). Calculate the standard deviation of blood glucose of D1 over the 24-hour duration. How large is the standard deviation of blood glucose in this situation compared to the corresponding standard deviation of blood glucose in D1 that you obtained in Q.4 (report as %)?
