mass of the cannon and cart is 0.88 tonnes. The cart is attached to a recoil mechanism which consists of a spring of stiffness 24.3 kN/m

and a damper with damping coefficient of c = 1590 Ns/m, as illustrated in the figure below. Determine the initial velocity, U, (m/s) of the

cart after the cannon is fired.
