In what ways are the choices we make about our appearance

rhetorical choices?

Cottom address the role that appearance plays in opportunity. While

we are told not to judge a book by its cover, it seems that people

inevitably do. In some ways, Cottom is able to illustrate the power

that looks, clothes, and status symbols have and how they are used to

open doors and give opportunities. What are some specific examples

from the text that demonstrate the relationship between appearance

and opportunity (or the lack therof)? In what ways are the choices we

make about our appearance rhetorical choices? How do looks impact

ethos and pathos? Can you think some examples from your own

experiences?
