/n ART116 Adobe Photoshop Project 1 - Retouching 5 Imperfect Photos then Display of Before and After Images Photographed from Life and Provided Challenge Images Instructions: Look at these examples of poor quality "imperfect" images that have been improved using a variety of techniques as needed within each photo: BEFORE AFTER BEFORE BEFORE AFTER BEFORE AFTER AFTER Observable Imperfections: • too dark, low contrast, muted details • too light or overly bright . gray, blue, or yellow-toned • muted colors, blurry details • overly busy, too many objects or distractions • unbalanced, too much unnecessary information • faint or undesired colors • unexpected marks, flaws, or objects PART 1-INSTRUCTIONS-Take Original "Bad" Photos From Life Step 1: Look around your home, job, and neighborhood to PREPARE for taking bad photos Step 2: Using your camera or phone (change settings to most compatible for jpeg format), take a minimum of 3 "original" photos from YOUR LIFE (not the internet) • NO DUSK or NIGHT PHOTOS Do photograph without the flash on, • Use poor low lighting, imperfect setting Find noticeable clutter, flaws or object you could remove or fix • Photograph anysubjects from the following categories: 。 people- portraits-head shots, groups of people, full-body shots 。 landscapes, houses, buildings, streets, cars, other transportation tools (around your house, garage, car, workshop) о related household items (for cooking, cleaning, decoration, etc.) o pets, full body, close-ups, farm animals Step 3: Transfer your photos to your computer Step 4: In Photoshop, Open each photo separately and change each image 1. Go to Image> Image Size size- 2. Change the Resolution to 144ppi 3. Change the Height to 1200px. (Make sure it is set to pixels) Keep the Width linked for it to change automatically Step 4: Save Each file As JPEG format... "Before1.jpg, Before2.jpg, Before3.jpg PART 2 - Retouch using varieties of techniques for each image INSTRUCTIONS: Follow these instructions to "Perfect" by using Photoshop Retouching Techniques (Minimum 4 Edits per Image): Step 1: Download the attached additional 4 "Bad" images and SELECT ANY 2 additional images that you will also retouch Step 2: OPEN Photoshop, Then, Open each of the 5 files separately Step 3: SAVE EACH FILE AS: Retouching Tools Spot Healing Brush Tool Healing Brush Tool Patch Tool Content-Aware Move Tool to Red Eye Tool Clone Stamp Tool S Pattern Pattern Stamp Tool S Eraser Tool Background Eraser Tool E Magic Eraser Tool Blur Tool A Sharpen Tool Smudge Tool Dodge Tool O Burn Tool о Sponge Tool o After1.psd (photoshop document) After2.psd After3.psd After4.psd After5.psd continued on next page Step 4: Carefully examine each photo looking for at least 5 areas for improvement with a combination of tools and techniques. lack of sharp detail dull blurry as a whole or in specific areas (especially on dark clothing) undersaturation as a whole or in specific areas too dark pale muddy muted color gray sky to bright bleached clashing of color(s) obvious flaws or unwanted details hair out of place undesired object or person blemish scratches glare or sun flare undesired color cast or tint aged, wrinkles yellowed, oranges, etc. overly blues color cast or any other noticeable imperfection or undesired detail Step 5: Begin retouching and "perfecting" in an effort to Make (4) REALISTIC corrections/changes to each image Must Use a combination of the following tools and techniques as needed on each photo:(Not All 5 Photos will require the same combination of retouching) 1. Saved Selections (to document isolated areas for specific changes) 2. Healing tools: Spot healing, Healing, Remove tool, Patch, Red Eye, Clone Stamp (to remove blemished, unwanted marks, undesired objects) 3. Content-Aware and/or Generative Fill 4. Dodge and/or Burn tools (to bring out/enhance specific details of light and dark edges) 5. Blur tool (to soften unwanted textures, and wrinkled spots, or create depth) 6. Adjustments (from Image>menu and/or Adjustment layers) Brightness, Levels, Hue, Color Balance, etc. 7. Cropping, enlarging-focusing in, or rotating the scene Step 6: EXPORT EACH FILE AS Quick Export as PNG: (File>Export>Quick Export as PNG) After1.png After2.png After3.png After4.png After5.png PART 3- Create a Text Document File to Display side by side both the Before andAfter INSTRUCTIONS: Step 1: Launch Microsoft Word (or other text editing software) and Start a NEW Text Document. Step 2: On 5 separate pages: 1. Insert the "Before" jpeg images next to the After.png files (Resize to fit next to each other, if necessary) 2. Under each image, type each File Name (Before1.jpg, After1.png) 3. Based on Part 2-Step 4, write down the FOUR (4) or more OBVIOUS flaws and the corrections that you did for each image pair. Step 3: Save the Text document as Retouched_Presentation.docx, Then Export as PDF (Only a PDF format will be accepted for this part) Step 4: Move all of the After.psd Photoshop files into a new folder and name it Project1_Retouched folder Do not include the jpegs and pngs Step 5: COMPRESS the Project1_Retouched folder to create a .zip format (.rar files will not be accepted) To compress - Mac: Go to the Finder/Desktop then File> Compress from the main menu across the top PC: Right-click on the Folder and choose Sent to..., then select the zip compression format Step 6: UPLOAD/SUBMIT the Retouched_Presentation.pdf to the assignment link Step 7: UPLOAD/SUBMIT the Project1_Retouched folder.zip to the Assignment link
