Primary Source Analysis 2

Much of what we know about ancient Near Eastern societies is derived

from their mythologies, stories and other contemporary literature. You will

read and assess several texts from these cultures to develop your own

understanding of ancient Near Eastern history.

Analyse one of the primary source readings assigned in Module Four, Five

or Six-Nergal and Ereshkigal, Erra and Ishum, or When Cyrus the Great

was a Boy- for how it relates to the historical culture(s) in which it was

created and circulated in one specific manner. Select one key element of

the historical society such as religion, warfare, gender roles, family life,

education or another significant cultural element and explain how that is

revealed in the document.
