Much of what we know about ancient Near Eastern societies is derived
from their mythologies, stories and other contemporary literature. You will
read and assess several texts from these cultures to develop your own
understanding of ancient Near Eastern history.
Analyse one of the primary source readings assigned in Module Four, Five
or Six-Nergal and Ereshkigal, Erra and Ishum, or When Cyrus the Great
was a Boy- for how it relates to the historical culture(s) in which it was
created and circulated in one specific manner. Select one key element of
the historical society such as religion, warfare, gender roles, family life,
education or another significant cultural element and explain how that is
revealed in the document.
